Inclusion and Diversity in Nuclear (IDN) has announced its 2026 Annual Conference, bringing together professionals from across the UK nuclear sector to explore how the industry can move from ambition to action on inclusion.
Taking place in Manchester and online on Thursday 4th June, attendees can expect an unmissable programme of talks, panels and valuable insights to build inclusive practices as part of a thriving organisational culture.
Here, we explain this year’s theme of “Inclusive by Default – How do we get there?” and why it matters now more than ever to make inclusion the default rather than the exception.
Why This Year’s Theme Matters
At IDN, we believe that an inclusive corporate culture is key to attracting and retaining the workforce the nuclear crucially needs to enact its ambitious infrastructure plans over the coming years.
Being ‘inclusive by default’ means ensuring that inclusive behaviours, systems, and cultures are fully embedded in organisations, rather than relying on individual effort or reactive policies.
With major investment underway across the industry – including building new power plants – demand for up to 24,000 additional workers is expected by 2030. This rapid expansion presents both an opportunity and a challenge to not only attract new talent from a broad range of backgrounds, but to ensure that the people who join the industry are supported to stay, develop and build long-term careers.
The Future of Nuclear is Inclusive!
The industry must take action now to build inclusive practices in its organisations and ensure its success, not just for the industry but for the energy security and net-zero objectives of the UK. Join us at the 2026 IDN Conference to start being Inclusive by Default.
